Nidamangalam is a town in Thiruvarur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.In the 18th and 19th century, it was also called Yamunambapuri (see section on Santhana Ramaswamy Temple below). Nidamangalam is the headquarters of the Nidamangalam Taluk. The town is located 280 km east of Coimbatore and 318 km south of Chennai. Nidamangalam, a municipality town surrounded by lot of small villages, has police station, Railway station (best profitable station in Tamil Nadu), bus terminal, fire service station, Taluk office and banks.
This is a junction for two highways,one national highway from Coimbatore to Nagapattinam and the other state highway from kumbakonam to mannargudi.The town is surrounded by rivers and cannot extend any more within those limits. Hence it is named Nidamangalam, as needatha mangalam means "limited area".Nidamangalam is abutted by the Vennar River in the north and the Korayar river in the south. Nidamangalam is notable for the temples located around it. Nidamangalam is a main hub for the nearby villages. Majority of population here are farmers. Back in the 1950s - 1970's it served as a Trade route for Paddy crops, and other crops cultivation.
